Practice history

The Reproductive Science Center (RSC) of the San Francisco Bay Area has been a pioneering fertility medical practice for more than a quarter-century. The practice formed in 1983, just two years after the first successful birth through in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the United States.

More than 9,000 babies have been born as a result of treatment at RSC. The center’s mission is to deliver the highest quality patient care, while also providing the best opportunities for building families. Physicians and staff at RSC advocate responsible decision making and high-quality customer service, treating patients with dignity, respect and compassion.

Notable expertise

RSC is responsible for the nation’s second successful birth of a baby from a frozen embryo and is currently recognized for renowned pregnancy rates and cutting-edge work with egg donors and egg donation. Excelling in state-of-the-art surgery, RSC is equipped with its own comprehensive onsite surgery center. RSC is a pioneer in microsurgery, an operation using the magnification of an operating microscope or a laparoscope. RSC is involved in cutting edge research to further the reproductive field.

Group specialties

The six doctors at RSC are specialists in infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, miscarriages, male infertility, pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS), egg freezing and reproductive medicine surgery. Their groundbreaking efforts in IVF, reproductive endocrinology, pelvic microsurgery, and operative laparoscopy have helped many couples realize the goal of starting a family.

RSCBA DoctorsRSC’s experienced infertility specialists, including board certified reproductive endocrinologists bring more than 75 years of combined experience in assisted reproductive technologies. The doctors follow standards set by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the largest organization of reproductive physicians in the United States. Many have been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals Fertility and Sterility. They are also recognized as expert sources and have been featured in media outlets such as ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “NBC News.”

What is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a method of treatment for infertility, which is defined as the inability to become pregnant after a year of unprotected intercourse if the female partner is under the age of 35 and after six months if the female partner is older than 35. In the IVF procedure, specialists combine sperm with an egg (oocyte) or eggs in a laboratory dish. A doctor then transfers the resulting embryo(s) to the uterus to develop naturally. IVF treatment, although complex, offers the highest rate of success among all the treatment options for infertility.

Region served

RSC serves patients from northern California, the Western United States, Asia, India and around the world.
