Study shows technology can better time ovulation trigger injections & improve egg retrieval outcomes
Although the main obstacle to conceiving is having healthy sperm and eggs, a new study led by researchers at Alife Health, a fertility technology company building artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to improve in vitro fertilization (IVF) success-rates, and experts at RSC shows technology can increase families’ chances of conceiving with fewer failures.
Patients who are having IVF are given fertility drugs to help trigger the ovaries to produce more eggs, or oocytes. The choices made by the doctors during this phase are crucial to how the cycle turns out. Too early of a trigger may prevent the oocytes from maturing, and too late of a trigger may produce post-mature oocytes, both of which reduce the likelihood of successful fertilization and the production of viable embryos for use in IVF pregnancy.
The research, which was just published in Fertility and Sterility, revealed that AI may be able to assist clinicians in selecting the best trigger day. This can have a profound impact on egg retrieval outcomes and IVF outcomes.
