Breaking Barriers, Creating Families: Fertility Clinic Ups Its Commitment to LGBTQ Reproductive Health

on

Serving the LGBTQ community for more than 35 years, Reproductive Science Center of the San Francisco Bay Area (RSC) offers couples and individuals every chance possible of having children of their own.

San Ramon, Calif. (May 22, 2019) – RSC, a 35-year pioneer of the in vitro fertilization (IVF) fertility treatment critical for many in the LGBTQ community wanting to have children, is hosting its second year of free educational events for LGBTQ couples and individuals about their reproductive options. With ever-increasing numbers of LGBTQ patients, staff certification by the Family Equality Council in LGBTQ considerations, and the new outreach seminars sensitively titled for “Those with Ovaries” and “Those with Testes,” RSC continues to cater to these prospective parents in need of reproductive assistance.

The “Breaking Barriers, Creating Families” seminar series explores fertility options, legal implications and important steps to consider for those trying to conceive. These seminars offer an opportunity for LGBTQ individuals and couples to learn about their family building options. With the help of expert panelists including psychologists, sperm and egg bank and surrogacy agency representatives, physicians, lawyers, acupuncturists, advocacy agencies and midwives, RSC strives to be a resource for the community.

“We offer nonjudgmental services to all patients,” says RSC’s Dr. Evan Rosenbluth. “Getting to take care of the LGBTQ community makes me especially proud. This group has been historically underserved and discriminated against by the medical establishment, especially when it comes to reproductive rights. We actively seek out people in the LGBTQ community who have the same desires to experience the joys of having a child as anyone else. Frequently this community uses fertility treatments to accomplish that.”

RSC has always embraced the motto, “We don’t define families, we create them.” Often same-sex couples wanting their own families encounter confusion and misunderstanding from others, sometimes even from medical professionals. RSC provides nonjudgmental care, and is dedicated to facilitating greater ease and comfort on everyone’s family journey.

In addition to 35 years of helping the LGBTQ community expand their families, RSC’s staff is certified by the Family Equality Council as part of the Open Door training program in Beyond Inclusion: LGBTQ+ 101 and Trans Fertility considerations. These programs address best practices for serving members of the LGBTQ community using family building services.
