Innovations promise more efficient and affordable treatment

Medscape logo for news article on fertility technology | RSC SF Bay AreaThe surging demand for fertility treatments is intensifying the strain on the limited availability of doctors. However, RSC’s Dr. Eduardo Hariton highlights that fertility technology is emerging as a solution to address this challenge and more.

“We have about 1250 practicing fertility physicians in the US to serve the whole country, which is highly inadequate,” warns Dr. Hariton. However, he points to innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics that may alleviate the strain on fertility physicians while helping make treatments more efficient.

“Rather than me making decisions from a couple of thousands of cycles of experience, I get to leverage hundreds of thousands of cycles from different providers over different people,” said Dr. Hariton of AI technology. “I get to use all the data from that patient today — her age, her weight, what happened last cycle, how she’s doing — and make a very objective decision about the optimal time to give that woman or that couple the best outcome possible.”

Moreover, advances in genetic testing and other assisted reproductive technologies are also showing promise. These developments are poised to make fertility treatments more accessible and potentially affordable in the future.
